Adrian’s Problem:
“Just landing a 6 figure job in a multinational.”
“I had a 6 month break.”
Adrian was my student back in May 2020, where we put together his resume for landing his first job. Our goal back then was to get him in supply chain near his hometown. Ultimately, he landed a role with a major MNC that had operations there.
For the next few years, he cycled through the different teams in supply chain and did amazing work for them. Demand planning, customer service, logistics, he did a stint in them all. But the company didn’t reward him accordingly in terms of compensation. Instead they kept asking him to take on more and more difficult assignments.
His situation? He reached a point where he was actively trying to manage his career’s next steps amidst all the work projects ongoing, and he hit burnout. So he quit.
Took a break for 6 months and realized that he needed advice on how to make his next move. Because he knew for sure he didn’t want to waste any more time on trying things that wouldn’t work.
So he called me up for help.
“The true problem I quickly saw was on his mindset to the job hunt. He had a lot of assumptions on what level he thought his next role should be and what he should be paid. A lot of shoulds floating around.
But he was also demoralized from dealing with the failed negotiations at his last workplace. So all those thoughts were jumbling up in his head and not giving him the decision making clarity he needed on where to start.
He felt like he needed to catch up quickly to make up for all the lost time.”
We just had 2 requests of his to work around. Namely that he:
Wanted to only work for major MNCs in their head office in Manila, though his past experience was all from working in the factory based in the province.
Wanted to get to Php100k / month, though his past salary was Php22k / month.
These aren’t major constraints for me to strategize through with Adrian, but I made sure to share my perspective early on.
He needed to be flexible to some degree, because my priority was speed in landing a job. He had been unemployed too long, in my opinion, and I didn’t want him to burn through any more savings. It would also become more difficult to explain his career gap as more time went by. I also wanted him to take advantage of the new year and get into one of the newly listed roles ASAP.
I outlined where he might have to lower expectations if ever, but reassured him that we would hit as close to his goals as possible. Our priority was a better situation for him quickly after all.
So where did we start?
With Adrian documenting all of his experiences from the past few years. And I mean all of it. From the big projects he handled leading a team without a formal position to the small problems he initiated solutions for when he was going above and beyond in his past roles.
I reviewed it all and started dividing them up by the different supply chain skills he was exhibiting, and so it’d be easier later on for him to build 1-pagers with it.
Once we got a clear idea of what skills he would highlight across all roles, and what were the customized ones for the ideal roles he listed, we built out his career story. This is how he’d explain his career decisions, especially for the 6 month break he took.
We also discussed how he’d talk about what he was looking for in the next role and what kind of growth he was looking for.
The last thing we wanted was for him to enter another scenario of broken promises.
The Bumpy Career’s Proposed Solution:
Adrian's situation is one a lot of students come to me with. “How do I land a job that hits my ideal checklist (great salary, great work environment, benefits I want, good boss, etc.) in the shortest amount of time?”
And I call my answer, The Bumpy Career’s Status Shift Method which comprises of 4 steps.
1️⃣ Audit & Align (Get Clear and Set the Goal)
You tell me what you want — no matter how vague, ambitious, or uncertain it feels right now. I’ll assess whether it’s feasible based on your background, goals, and current situation during our scoping call.
You’ll also gather your career map, which includes:
A Masterfile resume with everything you’ve done so far
An Ideal Job List divided into Dream Companies, Great Companies, and Safety Nets
An Ideal Offer Checklist broken down into Must-Haves, Nice-to-Haves, and Red Flags
Together, we’ll identify the gaps and misalignments between where you are and where you want to go.
2️⃣ Optimize & Strategize (Build the Roadmap)
Next, we rework your “career map” into something sharper and more strategic:
A targeted resume, an optimized LinkedIn, and a weekly job hunt system
Addressing skill gaps or possible portfolio pieces
Aligning your positioning with what your ideal employers actually want to see
Every move from here on is intentional.
3️⃣ Sharpen & Showcase (Boost Visibility and Make Your Case)
Here’s where we make you visible to the right people:
A LinkedIn networking plan with clear scripts and targets
Custom portfolios or case studies (if applicable)
Interview prep that tells the right story: how you got here and why you’re the right fit
A tight elevator pitch that makes you sound like the obvious candidate
We only get one shot to make the best impression. We’re not wasting it.
4️⃣ Execute & Secure (Apply, Interview, Win)
You’ll apply strategically, focusing only on high-impact roles.
Then we prep for interviews, negotiate offers, and secure a role that fits the vision we clarified in Step 1.
We also course-correct as needed — your strategy evolves based on market feedback, and we’ll adjust through optional catch-up calls.
And we do all of this in < 4 hours of live coaching.
💡 Why The Bumpy Career’s Status Shift Method™ Works
✅ You get clear on the right job. No more random applications and hoping for the best.
✅ You stay strategic, not reactive. Every step is mapped, not improvised.
✅ You move fast and efficiently. No overthinking or second-guessing.
✅ You land offers with confidence. Because you know you’re showing up as your sharpest self.
Back to Adrian.
Once we had his resume set up and aligned on his interview answers for all the possible scenarios, especially about why he left and took a break. His experience was great, his resume was perfect for any role in supply chain.
Our only problem would be timing and figuring out the right interview answers that would best position him as a senior supply chain professional.
Timeline and Deliverables:
Across 19 days, we had 3 1-hour calls where we:
✅ Built a strong resume, highlighting the wide range of competence he built in the past few years, and how that equated to him being a senior in the field already.
✅ Built out his ideal offer checklist, where we made it clear the minimum standards he was looking for. This meant what was the salary, workload, benefits, and most importantly work locations he wanted from this job.
✅ Built out his job hunting tracker to see what was the in-demand supply chain roles at his ideal companies and to see if he could be a perfect fit for them.
✅ Built up his LinkedIn.
✅ Interview practiced, especially on getting his career story and past career moves right. More importantly, we worked on how he’d position himself in his past stories at a senior who stepped up for the team.
✅ !! Most important !! Worked on his mindset and approach to the job hunt, that he needed to manage his expectations on the offers he’d be getting considering his previous experience and current situation. I didn’t want him to feel like he had to “get what he was owed” from this new company. Bringing in feelings from old negotiations wouldn’t help him in these new conversations.
Outcome:
Adrian came out of our calls with a strong resume, a sharpened interview skillset, and the best understanding possible on what his options were salary-wise and timeline-wise. He was ready to get a new job and started the new year interviewing nonstop.
The updates I got from Adrian were all about him being invited to interviews, with his dream companies responding back (though being a confusing with their calendars). I had no worries about Adrian because I knew he’d do great, I just needed him to keep me in the loop before responding to make sure we were positioning him properly.
Ultimately, he did great!
Adrian signed a job offer with his #1 dream company 52 days after we signed on to working together, paying him 318% more.
Some words from Adrian himself:
I knew that Adrian would land a job quickly if we could just focus his energy on productive conversations with potential new employers.
Our end goal was always to position him into a better situation, not for him to pursue something new or super senior to what he was. Besides, he learned a lot from his long-term discussions with his old company, and we worked through what he could have done better then. There would be plenty of chances in the future for him to reopen negotiations with whoever was his current employer now that he knew how to talk to them better.
My greatest wish is for him to thrive in his new company and that they see him for the senior supply chain professional that I know he is. And from what he’s telling me so far, it sounds like that’s on the way.
